VENEZUELA ORGANIZARÁ EL ENCUENTRO MUNDIAL DE INTELECTUALES Y ARTISTAS EN DEFENSA DE LA HUMANIDAD
** Más de 400 personalidades de todo el mundo se darán cita para debatir sobre los principales problemas que afectan al mundo
Venezuela está afinando los detalles para la realización del Encuentro Mundial de Intelectuales y Artistas en Defensa de la Humanidad a celebrarse en Caracas y el interior del país del 2 al 7 de Diciembre de 2004. Este histórico evento, organizado por el Despacho del Ministro de Estado para la Cultura, Francisco Sesto Novas, comenzó a gestarse a principios de año con la realización del Encuentro de Escritores Cubano-Venezolano, que abrió el camino para la convocatoria de este nuevo encuentro que reunirá alrededor de 400 personalidades Internacionales y Nacionales, cuya postura ética, plena de compromiso social, intenta extender fronteras de solidaridad con todas las regiones, naciones y continentes que luchan contra la hegemonía imperialista, apoyando la igualdad, la dignidad, la libertad y el respeto entre los pueblos.
Este evento sin precedentes en la historia de Venezuela, apunta hacia una conjunción de diálogo donde la reflexión sobre importantes temas de interés mundial, serán tratados en mesas de trabajo por un nutrido grupo de intelectuales de todos los continentes que vendrán a nuestro país a dar su visión sobre el entorno globalizador.
Temas como la crisis económica, el ALCA, la deuda externa, políticas alternativas frente al neoliberalismo y la integración de América Latina y el Caribe, medios de información y comunicación, manipulación y alternativas para una cultura de resistencia, así como también contenidos que abarcan la defensa de los recursos naturales y las reservas mundiales de hidrocarburos, etcétera, serán tratados por reconocidos expertos en diferentes áreas quienes trazarán estrategias de resistencia a los intentos de hegemonía mundial por parte de algunas superpotencias y poner su acento en la independencia de los pueblos y sus riquezas culturales.

Entre las personalidades que han confirmado su asistencia están: los Premio Nobel de Literatura y de La Paz, José Saramago y Adolfo Pérez Esquivel; el dramaturgo español Alfonso Sastre; el poeta nicaragüense Ernesto Cardenal; el historiador mexicano Feliciano García Aguirre; el reconocido actor estadounidense Danny Glover; el economista Belga experto en el tema de la Deuda Externa Eric Toussaint; el periodista francés director de Le Monde Diplomatique Ignacio Ramonet; la trovadora chilena Isabel Parra; James Petras, importante figura del movimiento antiglobalización estadounidense; la periodista española Eva Forest Tarrat; el cineasta inglés Alex Cox; el Ministro de Cultura de Cuba Abel Prieto; y el economista brasilero Theotonio Dos Santos. Contando además con un nutrido grupo de intelectuales que ya han manifestado su interés en participar en este magno encuentro.
Dentro de las actividades programadas para el encuentro está la realización de un ciclo de sobre los Derechos Humanos, organizado por la Cinemateca Nacional, en el cual se exhibirán alrededor de 15 películas y 5 documentales provenientes de 11 países, destacando la presencia del cineasta argentino Tristán Bauer, galardonado en el renglón de Cine en Construcción del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián 2004 (España), por su película aún no acabada “Iluminados por el Fuego”, de la cual mostrará un avance de 90 minutos. También estarán presentes el argentino Fernando Solanas y el brasileño Walter Salles, ganador del Globo de Oro por la película “Estación Central”, quienes además realizarán cine foros junto a otros importantes realizadores del séptimo arte.
Entre las películas que formarán parte del ciclo, destacan: “Lumumba” de Raoul Peck (Francia), Mississipi en Llamas, de Alan Parker (USA), “Tupac Amaru” de Federico García Hurtado (Perú), “La Batalla de Chile”, de Patricio Guzmán (Chile), “Amazonas, el negocio de este mundo” de Carlos Azpúrua (Venezuela), “Los hijos del último jardín” de Jorge Sanjinés (Bolivia), “Garaje Olimpo” de Marcos Bechis (Argentina-Italia), “Roble de olor” de Rigoberto López (Cuba), y “La Hora de los hornos”, de Fernando Pino Solanas (Argentina), entre otros.
Y para el cierre del Encuentro Mundial de Intelectuales y Artistas en Defensa de la Humanidad, se espera la realización de un concierto multitudinario en la Avenida Bolívar, con la presencia de grandes figuras internacionales y nacionales.

WORLD MEETING OF INTELLECTUALS AND ARTISTS IN DEFENSE OF THE HUMANKIND
INTERNATIONAL INTELLECTUALS AND ARTISTS WILL MEET IN VENEZUELA
Venezuela is perfecting the details for the accomplishment of the World Meeting of Intellectual and Artists in Defense of the Humankind to be celebrated in the city of Caracas and other states from December 2nd to December 7th, 2004. This historical event organized by the Office of Minister of State for the Culture, Francisco Sesto Novas, began to develop at the beginning of year with the accomplishment of the Meeting of Cubans-Venezuelans Writers, which laid the way for the call for a new meeting that this time will unite around 400 International and National personalities, which ethical position full of social commitment, tries to extend borders of solidarity with all the regions, nations and continents that fight against the imperialistic hegemony, supporting the equality, the dignity, the freedom and the respect among peoples.
This unprecedented event in Venezuelan history points out toward an union of dialogue, where the reflection on important subjects of world-wide interest will be discussed in working tables by a nourished group of intellectuals coming from countries of all continents, they will be going to Venezuela to give their point of view about globalization environment.
Issues such as the economic crisis, FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) the external debt, political alternatives as opposed to the neo-liberalism and Latin America and Caribbean integration, media and , alternatives and manipulation for a resistance culture, as well as contents that include the defense of natural resources and hydrocarbon world reserves, etc., will be discussed for recognized experts in different areas who will plan resistance’s strategies to the attempts of world hegemony on the part of some superpowers and to put their accent in the independence of peoples and his cultural wealth.
This way, ¶Venezuela joins to the block of Latin America and world countries that are fighting in favor of encouraging projects of development for the neediest countries, at moments which foreign powers try to impose an unique thinking model by means of the neo-liberal globalization and have the intention to devastate the cultural legacy of those peoples.¶
It is expected that with this countries’ summit, proposals arise to find points of coincidence, it is also expected to design common strategies that assure a general consent for peace, countries sovereignty and cultural diversity, trying to reconstruct the social union through solidarity among countries, strengthening this way their economic political and social field weaknesses.
Among the personalities that have already confirmed their attendance to the meeting are: Portuguese Literature Nobel Prize José Saramago; Argentinean Peace Nobel Prize Adolfo Pérez Esquivel; Spanish playwright Alfonso Sastre; Nicaraguan Poet Ernesto Cardenal; Mexican Historian Feliciano García Aguirre; Belgian Economist expert in external debt, Eric Toussaint; French Journalist, editor of “Le Monde Diplomatique” Ignacio Ramonet; Chilean folk singer Isabel Parra; one of the most important figure of anti globalization American movement as James Petras; Spanish Journalist Eva Forrest Tarrat; English Filmmaker Alex Cox; Cuban Minister of Culture Abel Prieto and the Brazilian Economist Theotonio Dos Santos. Having also a nourish group of intellectuals who have already manifested their interest in being part of this event.
The programming for the World Meeting also includes a Human Rights film series to be presented at the Cinemateca Nacional of Venezuela, screening 15 movies and 5 documentary films from 11 countries. Highlighting the presence of the Argentine filmmaker Tristan Bauer, awarded this year at the San Sebastian Film Festival 2004 (Spain) with the "Cine en Construccion" Award for his unfinished film "Iluminados por el fuego", from which ¶he’ll show a preview of 90 minutes long. ¶Argentinean filmmaker Fernando “Pino” Solanas, and Brazilian Oscar Nominee and Golden Globe winner Walter Salles ("Central station”) will be present in this Meeting, participating in roundtable discussions along with other important movie artists.

And for closing the World Meeting of Intellectuals and Artists on Defense of the Humankind, a mass concert in the Avenida Bolivar at Caracas will be done.
