FOR OUR FIRST LESSON:

WHILE WAITING FOR THE FIRST LESSON TO BEGIN...

Please form groups of 6 (not 5, not 7, but 6) students and
sit together in one of the colored areas below:
Groups should be ALL “OCI” students or ALL “LL” students (not mixed).

If you cannot find enough students to form a group of 6, tell the Class Secretary.
At the beginning of the next lesson, she will merge your partial group with another partial group.

Room A or B
Seating Arrangement of groups

Groups consist of 6 students, 3 in front and 3 behind, like this:

This arrangement allows everyone to participate in the group discussions.

Friday, October 6th, there will be a Transportation Strike in Rome from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
The scheduled lesson (3-5 pm) will take place but not coming will not count as an absence.

Students who want to attend and who depend on public transportation
will have to be at the University by 8:30;
they can study in the library or see films in English in the language lab until the lesson at 3.

The lesson will give only “complementary information” regarding the course. The “fundamental information” will be given on Monday, so students absent on Friday will loose nothing essential.

The “complementary information” will consist in:
(1) background to the concepts of “the evolution of English” and “globalized world”;
(2.) practice in writing a composition in English describing the contents of a text*

*This will be the first official task for next week, to be done at home.
Since there will be few people present on Friday it will be possible to give individual assistance in composition practice (impossible to do during the regular course: too many students, too little time in a 3 credit module).

Enroll in the course: fill out the form under ROLL (in the main menu) and send the file “form.txt” to form @ uniroma3.it.  If you don't have an on-line email service, you can use
http://webmail.interfree.it/   (User name: student1. Ask me for the password.)

NO LESSON ON FRIDAY, OCT. 13TH (due to preparations for the visit of the Dalai Lama)

SELF-MANAGED LESSON ON TUESDAY, OCT. 17TH (Iìll be at an important Consiglio del Collegio Didattico until 4:30)

You have two (2) homework assignments to do by SUNDAY, October 15th.
See Tasks 1 and 2 below (or click
here and here)..

Pizza dinner with Trinity students on Thursday November 9th “da Remo” al Testaccio.
See full details here.   Before your go, read the NEXT news item.

Research Task 4 – Begin your interrogation DURING THE PIZZA and then continue it during your shopping experience. This means you should choose your American partners quickly, to be able to sit near them during the dinner.

I also put the marks, but only for Group D. The group leader did a good job and so gets 1 extra point (5+1=6).   I did not put the marks for Group C because if I did, I would have to give the group leader a zero or just one point, because she gave 5 to everyone, even reports that put Britons and Italians in impossible places, or reports with interrogation strategies that cannot uncover anything (besides being too obviously contrived).  I would like to give the group leader a second chance, so I didn't put her marks on the web page; unfortunately, she does not have an e-mail address so if someone from her group sees her, could you please inform her of this message?  Thanks. I am still waiting for the marks from the other two groups..

See full details on Task 4 here.

The partial exam (esonero) scheduled for the 10th has been moved to the 14th at the request of the students present at the lesson on Nov. 6th.

Your papers and marks for Task 2 (Second Attempt) are on our class web page (go to YOUR DATA and then MARKS).

The Dean ("Preside") has asked all students to evaluate their teachers and has distributed the forms this week. It is mandatory (not optional, as in the past). I would like to ask you to RETURN TO OUR CLASSROOM on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26th, AT 3 PM. You will find my new class in the classroom at that hour, but there are enough places for all of you, too. Both you and they will all fill out the "Teacher Evaluation" forms together. Hopefully we can finish in a half hour, maximum one hour.

While you are writing your "Teacher Evaluation" report, I will distribute the "esoneri" so you can see my comments (if any) for each question. If you want we can discuss the questions.

Your partial exam (esonero) papers have been marked by me. You can find the marks in YOUR DATA under MARKS FOR PARTIAL EXAM or simply by clicking here>  I have also updated your total marks for the corse, under "YOUR DATA" -- > "Marks for Research Tasks".

    -  The Attendance Sheet gives the names of the group members in squares containing a grey box  .
    -  The Group Leader puts P (present), A (absent) or X (late or left early) in each grey box  . .
    -  Leaders also put L1 (or L2, L3...) after their name to show who is the leader for that week.
N.B.  If a Leader is absent, the group nominates a substitute who signs the Roll Sheet but who does

not put L1 (or L2...) after her name, unless the substitution is permanent for that week.
    - The number between the first parentheses gives total absences so far (max. 2 absences in a module with 10 lessons in all, 3 absences for a module with 15 lessons in all, 4 absences in a module with 20 lessons, etc.). The second number gives the times the student was late or left early. After three such times, the number of absences is increased by one.

      SIGN  HERE:          Laura Rossi

Laura Rossi signs because she is substituting temporarily for Maria (who remains the Group Leader for that week)
